Author Interview with Annetta Swift
|
A peek into the world of Christian author Annetta Swift, talking about writing with faith...
|
What kind of research do you do for your books, if
any?
My writing is mostly inspirational but if there is any
research that is done it is strictly for the purpose of
having an accurate account of things and the reality of
a particular situation.
The writing industry is just like other businesses.
There's behind the scenes drama with publishers,
agents and other authors- back biting, discouragement
and competition. How do you stay centered on God?
I have been fortunate not to have those obstacles thus
far, but I am like God's secretary and I only write what
He says for me to write. So not only is my center God,
my EVERYTHING is God. He orders my steps and with
the good and the bad I realize that ultimately He is in
control.
Do you have a set writing schedule?
No. I write when the story hits me. Once I am in a flow I
can't stop until it is complete. But I don't usually write
until that "burning" hits me.
How much of your personality and life experiences are
in your writing?
I try to stay away from writing any particulars about any
person or situation that I know of, but at the same time
deal with issues that are real. right now, and relevant.
Would you like to write a different genre than you do
now, or sub-genre?
I would like to venture into some "Self-help" books that
would minister to the whole person.
What does your husband/wife think of your writing?
I believe that my husband is one of my biggest fans.
Please tell us about yourself (family, hobbies,
education, etc.)
I love acting, singing, and being with my family. I am
one of the lead servants of my church's drama team,
Fresh Manna. They are a joy to me and it gives me the
opportunity to take my writing to another dimension. I
am also the editor and chief of our church's newsletter,
The Vain Jangler.
How does your faith influence your writing?
I always say that my beliefs are important because
if you have something good, you want to share it
with the world, especially if it is easily accessible. I
feel that some will never dark the doors of a church
but will go to see a play. Some may never read a
Bible, but will read a novel and that is how my faith
influences me. To do as Jesus did, tell stories and
meet people where they are.
Are there any words of encouragement for
unpublished writers?
Never stop. It may not seem to be paying off, but
God is faithful and you don't fail if you are not well
known. You fail only if you quit.
One thing extra that I would like to add is that I
have written and I am directing a play, "Love
Under New Management", that will be
presented at the Clayton County Performing
Arts Center, GA on November 16, 2007 and
the tickets are sold through TicketMaster.com.
The price is only $10!!!
Love Under New Management is a love
story about the trials and triumph of Lavern
Dillard. She finds herself in a compromising
position, having to choose God or her man.
Although she and her live-in boyfriend are very
wealthy and successful, they are failing in the
department of love. In addition to that she has
major drama with her teenage daughter,
Kianna, and some shady dealings going on
with their maid. Who is she? What is her
agenda? You do not want to miss the unfolding
of this edge of your seat drama that will make
you laugh, cry, and ultimately show that the only
way to have love under new management is to
have God as the CEO.
