Why did you become a writer?

I have always had a love of writing and reading. Books
were (and still are) my best friends! My shelves are
overflowing and my family teases that I should just run a
bookstore. From reading so much, I found storytelling to
be fun- I loved to see how creative I could get with my
characters. Every time I write something new, I get as
excited as I did when I wrote my first short story back in Jr.
High.

What's your favorite kind of writing?

I LOVE fiction! Any kind- mystery, sci-fi, fantasy; although
I must admit, romance holds a special place in my heart.!
: ) I also like biographies. As far as what I write, I like to
write about relationships- familial and romantic.

What other publications have you worked for?

I've been writing book reviews for an online review
magazine
The Romance Reader's Connection for the
last 4 years and recently worked with the e-book
publishing company, Lavender Isis. I'm also affiliated with
Banyon Publishing and had several short stories
published in
Jive, Black Secrets and Black Romance.

Where do you get your story ideas?

Wow, they come from all over really. I've had so many
unbelievable experiences in my lifetime, I've had a wealth
of material to choose from! People watching is one of my
favorite past times and then, of course, I read a lot of
different books. Inspiration can come from anywhere- a
song, a person, or a place.
What do you like to do for fun?

Play video games, spend time with my family, READ,
listen to music and catch up on my soaps! (Yes, I
watch- great creative playground!)

What other things are you involved in?

I like to work with children's charities  (Check out my
links) and I enjoy website building.

Who do you like to read?

I like so many people, I'm going to have to choose just
my top three- Beverly Jenkins, Francis Ray and Diana
Palmer. They are the ones whose books I will buy the
very day they hit the shelves. I also love the nonfiction
works of Torey Hayden.

Elissa Scott Kyle is a pseudonym you use
occasionally- where did it come from?

In college, a few friends called me Elissa and I thought
'that's perfect for a romance writer' but I wanted a last
name that would flow with it. I have 2 cousins (brothers)
I adored, one who died at the age of 22 in 1995 and the
other who just passed away in June 2008 at the age of
38.  Their names are Keenan Scott and Kyle Jarrod
and they were two of the best men I've ever known. I
miss them every day!
