It’s Christmas time again, but the people of the forgotten town of
Mistletoe have never heard of nor seen Christmas before.
The Council of Everything Magic decides to send their top spirits to
aid Lucas, one of Santa’s helpers, bring Christmas to this forgotten
town.

A glowing light appears and streaks across the clear midnight sky
like a falling star, where it stops and hovers a foot above the ground
over a clearing on Holly Mountain.

The light slowly fades away leaving in its stead Kara, her familiar
Snowball and her little sister Ariel. There’s a touch of sadness in
their eyes because has they peer down at the town they see no
colorful Christmas lights nor any Christmas tree standing tall in the
town square.

“Well we’re here,” purred Snowball as he gazed up at his mistress.

Excited to be there, Ariel clapped her hands together, “I am so glad
the Council gave permission for me to come too. Now I'll finally be
able to do some magic!” she exclaimed.

“So am I, sweetie,” replied Kara, “but before we can do any magic,
we have to find Lucas and a few other things first.” She snapped her
fingers and a notebook materialized out of thin air.

Snowball and Ariel watched has Kara opened and scanned the
notebook. “Before we left White Magic Kingdom, the Council told
me that Lucas lived here on Holly Mountain,” she stated.

“Where? I don’t see any houses here?” asked Snowball as he stared
at the woods surrounding the clearing. “Is he living in a tree?”

“Of course not, Snowball,” Kara chuckled. “I have his address right
here. It’s 4646 Candycane Lane.”

“Does it give you the directions too?” asked Ariel as she tried to
peer over Kara’s shoulder.

“No, but they did give me a map,” she replied and the map
appeared in her hand. “Well let’s check it out,” said Snowball.

Crouching down, Kara spread the map on the ground. With Ariel
and Snowball on either side of her, she pointed to where they were
and where they had to go.

“Candycane Lane is just beyond those trees,” said Kara as she
pointed north, “follow me.” Picking up the map she walked off and
entered the north woods.

Picking Snowball up Ariel hurried to catch up to Kara. They
followed her along a well-used path until they came out on the other
side onto a paved road.

They stopped and waited as Kara checked the map again,
“According to the map we’re standing on Candycane Lane and
Lucas lives at the top of this hill,” said Kara.  “Let’s go,”
Draping Snowball over her shoulder Ariel followed her sister up the
hill. Reaching the top they stopped and stared with awe at the house
Lucas lived in.

It was a two-storey house with a wrap around porch and a huge bay
window. They could see colorful Christmas lights that twinkled on
and off and the large wreath that hung on the front door. Through the
bay window stood a huge Christmas tree decorated in rainbow lights
and silver tinsel, and sitting at the very top of the tree was an angel
all dressed in gold.

“Wow, it’s beautiful,” Ariel, whispered with wide eyes.

“It certainly is,” replied Kara as she climbed onto the porch and
knocked on the door.

Footsteps sounded inside and the door swung open to reveal Lucas,
Kara’s partner and friend.

“Hello Lucas, your help has arrived,” Kara, announced with a smile.

“Hello Kara, it’s good to see you again,” said Lucas as he ushered
them inside.

“You remember my little sister Ariel and my feline Snowball, don’t
you?” she asked as they stepped inside the foyer.

“Of course I do,” he replied as he kissed Ariel’s cheek and ruffled
Snowball’s furry head. “Thank you for coming, I really needed help
on this one, there’s too much to do for just one person” Lucas said
as he led them into the living room.

Sitting down in the leather chair by the hearth and letting Snowball
climb into her lap, “Did Santa’s sleigh and reindeer arrive ok?” Kara
asked.

Lucas nodded, “Yes, I put the reindeer in their stalls and the sleigh
behind the stable. We still need to make the Christmas decorations,
string all the lights around town and cut down the twelve foot tree I
found for the town square.”

Snowball, who was quietly dozing in Kara’s lap, “What about the
toys for the children? Did the Council send them too?” he suddenly
asked.

“No” replied Lucas, "Before I left to come here they told me we’
d have to use our magic to make the toys.”
Turning to Ariel, “Do you have the list of
all the children’s names?” Kara asked.
“Right here,” she replied as a large scroll
appeared.

Surprised at seeing Santa’s scroll, Lucas
asked “Who gave it to you?”

Ariel, rolled her eyes up as if to say
‘whom else?’ “Santa of course,” she
answered.

“It’s getting late,” said Kara, “we should
get some sleep. We still have a few more
days until Christmas Eve to prepare our
magic spells and Santa’s arrival.”

“Yes you’re right, we’ll start fresh in the
morning,” Lucas said and he led them up
to the second floor to the rooms he had
prepared for them.

The next day, Lucas, Kara, Ariel and
Snowball stomped outside onto the hard
packed snow and entered the stable
through the wide double doors.

“Ooh” whispered Ariel as she
approached the reindeers. “They are so
cute, what are their names?” she asked
looking over her shoulder at Lucas.

“Snowball, would you do the honors?”
Kara asked.

The cat pranced over to Ariel and sat
down. Lifting a paw he pointed to the
right “That’s Dasher, that’s Dancer,
Prancer and Blitzen, and on the left is
Comet, Cupid, Donner and Vixen.”

Ariel, delighted with the names,
approached Dasher and gently rubbed
his nose; it was so soft.

“Thank you Snowball,” said Kara, “now
let’s go get the tree Lucas found for the
town square.”

Lucas harnessed his two plow horses,
grabbed his axe and the reins and led the
way to where he’d found the tree for the
town square. They followed Lucas to the
twelve-foot tree and watched with bright
eyes as he chopped it down.

Positioning the horses, Lucas tied the
ropes around the tree trunk. He picked
up the reins again and pulled as he urged
them to move. They headed back to the
house.

Whipping out her notebook Kara put a
check mark beside the word tree, “We
have the tree, next on the list is to
prepare all our magic spells for the
decorations and lights,” she said.

“Ariel, did you remember to bring the
sac of magic rose petals the Council
gave you for the reindeers?” Snowball
asked.

“Uh-huh, It’s right here,” she said and
twirled her index finger in a circle. The
sac of magic rose petals materialized at
their feet.

Lucas peered into the sac and asked
“Why are you giving rose petals to the
reindeers?”

Grinning, “The magic rose petals are
new! Santa invented them and instead of
using his magic dust he said to feed the
petals to the reindeers to help them fly.”
Ariel answered.

“That’s great!” exclaimed Lucas and he
picked up the sac. They all continued
their way to the stables, where they
stored the sac until needed Christmas
Eve.

During the next few days before
December 24th, Kara, Snowball, Ariel
and Lucas prepared their magic spells
and gathered all the ingredients required
to bring Christmas to Mistletoe.

Christmas Eve finally arrived and all was
in readiness. They had their magic spells
memorized, the plow horses harnessed
to a wagon with the tree inside and
Santa’s reindeers harnessed to his red
sleigh.

“Well gang,” Lucas said as he gazed at
them, “let’s be off.”

“Wait,” exclaimed Ariel. “I forgot to
feed the magic rose petals to the
reindeers!” She ran back inside the
stables and returned with the sac.
