Author Interview with Shelia Lipsey
Get Up Close & Personal with
author Shelia Lipsey
, in a
discussion about her newest
release Sinsatiable  and her
adventures in writing.
Q:  How much of your personality and life
experiences are in your writing?

I believe there is much of my personality
embedded in my writing.  I am quite an emotional,
and sensitive person.  I tend to look at life in a
serious manner.  I’ve faced many tumultuous times
and trials but much like my characters, that’s the
way life goes.

Q. Tell us about your latest release.

My latest release, Sinsatiable, is a novel that is
really centered on the title itself.  Sinsatiable is
an uncontrollable craving for the secular things in
life without thinking about the consequences that
can come along with it.  It is a powerfully gripping
tale about a successful young woman whose faith
is tested when she’s pulled into a world of fast
money and easy pleasure.  Twenty four year old
Aisha Carlisle has a loving boyfriend, her own
dance studio, and abiding faith in God.  But that
faith is sorely tested when she must purchase the
building that houses her studio. Seeking quick
money, Aisha enters a world of lust and intrigue.
And suddenly she stands to lose everything that
matters.

Q:  When did you decide to be a writer? What motivated
you to start writing in this genre?

I have been writing speeches, reciting poems and
helping others write persona and business letters since
I was a youngster.  I always enjoyed writing essays
when I was in school and when I attended college.  As
for the genre, I have known God as my personal, Lord
and Savior since I was eight years old. As I thought
about writing, God kept ‘nudging’ me to write about the
problems and situations of people of faith, to show the
imperfect side of those who walk in His path.
Sometimes Christians and people of faith pretend that
they lead perfect lives and have it all together, but that is

definitely not the case.  Therefore, I write about the flip
side of sin in the people of God.

Q: Would you like to write a different genre than you do
now, or sub-genre?

I think my writing already ‘dabbles’ somewhat or should
I say crosses over into mainstream and contemporary
fiction.  These are other genres I would like to
concentrate on.  I also love writing Christian nonfiction
and have actually self- published a nonfiction book
entitled A Christian’s Perspective-Journey Through
Grief.  I plan on expanding this line of nonfiction books
into a series of books with various subtitles.

Q: How do you recharge your creativity? What do you
do for fun or relaxation?

I have grandchildren who I love and adore. I love
spending time with them as well as with my sons and
my family.  I also like to watch HGTV, Discovery Health
Channel and read.  The computer is my best friend so I
spend hours upon hours on it until one of my sons
reminds me that I need to take a break. J
Q: The writing industry is just like other
businesses.  There's behind the scenes drama with
publishers, agents and other authors- back biting,
discouragement and competition.  How do you stay
centered on God?

Fortunately, I have not been subjected to much of
this in the literary arena.  But I do know that when I
first signed my book deal, there were a couple of
my friends who were also writers but had not yet
been published.  They changed toward me and it
hurt.  But eventually I got over it with God’s help.
Everyone is not going to be in your corner and
everyone is not going to want to see the next
person succeed.  I’m just the opposite; whatever I
can do to help someone else fulfill their dreams
then I am going to give it my best.  I think I have
always known this because having grown up
with polio, I was constantly badgered, teased and
mocked by other kids and even adults.  The words
hurt so bad but it only made me that much more
determined to make my mark on this world.  God
continually equips me and surrounds me with
people, family and friends who shake me when I
need it by reminding me of how highly favored I am
and how blessed.

Q:  How does your family/spouse feel about your
writing?

I come from a very supportive, encouraging and
motivating family.  They support me tremendously
and whatever they can do to help me, they will do.  I
love them and thank God for their support and for
their belief in my writing.

Q:  How can people learn more about you and your
books?  How can they contact you?
