GREEN MAGIC

It was the time of night where the streetlights weren't on but it was still sort of dark. Twilight, I guess. That's
when things went wrong. I was almost to my house and even though it was really dark now, the streetlights
weren't on. How unusual. Oh, okay, they were coming on. Except for this one right in front of me. I had a
dreadful feeling that I should have taken Armod's offer.

"Hello, Shaley,” said a familiar voice in the shadows.
"Cody, is that you? I didn't know you lived in our neighborhood!" I said, surprised.
"I don't," he said, sort of sinisterly, I thought.
"So what are you doing here? Visiting 'Mod?" I asked, backing up, for he started to advance on me.
"Oh no, I came to see you,” Cody replied, still in that ominous tone. Then I noticed he had a magic aura
around him! And furthermore, it was orange. Mind control magic. Uh-oh. Something told me he was trying
to control me. Suddenly I felt something in my mind pull, like someone was trying to shape it. It was
happening already! Mind control!
"N-N-No…S-S-Stay away from me…" I said weakly, sitting down at the base of the tree I was backed
against. Mind control drains the energy of those being controlled.
"I'll explain why I am here. You see, my good friend Armodeus has simply become too powerful. Therefore,
I am going to… dispose of him. Of course, magic leaves traces, so I will have you perform the actual
slaying. Everybody will think it was a plant spell gone wrong and I will have my wishes fulfilled,” Here Cody
paused to laugh. "And to think he would date an under accomplished witch like you!" Cody sneered.
I was trying to fight him off, but he was right, I was a weakling compared to him or Armod.
"S-S-Stop it….No… I-I-I won't do it…" I whispered, feeling myself on the verge of fainting.
"I admire your will power, but you will not succeed! Give it up!" he snarled.
"Wait… if I am so weak, why did you wait until I was tired out from walking here to attack me? Are you…
Could it be that… you yourself are as weak as me?" I asked, trying to annoy him and building up strength as
I talked. It worked, too. All that time with Armod's annoying little cousins paid off.
“Why you little witch! In all meanings of word! How dare you suggest that I am as weak as you!" he said,
surprised, his concentration broken.
This was what I was waiting for. I had already stood up, leaning on the tree for support, and as soon as his
high conceitedness had shut his big mouth and broke the spell, I was off like a rocket. I didn't take track in
middle school for nothing. I could run! I made it to my house and rushed into my room. I locked every door
and window. I probably made a heck of a lot of noise, but Jim, the only one around, could sleep through a
bad thunderstorm at 5 years old, when other kids his age woke up and went to their parents.
As I sat on my bed, I realized that Cody had done some minor damage to my head. I also realized that I
would probably hurt Armod tomorrow, not fatally, but bad enough to get him sent to a hospital, like a
broken leg or something. I would have to avoid Armod for a day or two.
Oh, I forget you guys out there who are reading my story don't know the rules of magic. See, if a mind
controller, like Cody, fails in the middle of the spell, it will take a day or two for it to wear off. There are
counter spells, but depending on who cast the spell, it might drain you of your energy. So there was no way
I was going over to Armod's tomorrow. At least, that's what I thought.
