SURRENDER YOUR HEART!!!

Surrender
“Good morning,” he said roughly, his mocha brown eyes taking inventory from her head to her pink painted toes.
Monique shifted nervously, feeling his gaze upon her as one would feel heat.

While he stood there drinking in his fill, she took the time to view him just as thirstily.  She hadn’t seen him all week
and she’d really missed him. He was dressed in a white button shirt, which was undone enough to show a glimpse
of his well defined chest, with black form fitting jeans that showcased the powerfully built legs that won three state
track championships in a row during college.  Standing a good three inches over six feet with broad shoulders, he
was so much man her breath stopped in her throat.  As Monique ended her perusal, her gaze met his and he raised
his right eyebrow knowingly.  She turned away, feeling the heat rise in her face.

“Jordan, what are you doing here?  I didn’t expect to see you after the delightful messages I heard on my
answering machine,” Monique joked, trying to disguise the quivers that were rippling in her stomach.

He shrugged casually and walked past her into the living room.  “I was upset last night.  You weren’t here and I
needed to talk to you.”  He turned to face her and Monique was once more overwhelmed with what a formidable
presence he made in the room.  They stared at each for long seconds, not saying anything.  She felt suddenly shy
in front of this man who once saw her covered in nightly face cream.  Why?  It wasn’t like she had feelings for him
like Cassie was always saying she did.  That notion was, well, simply ridiculous.

Finally he spoke, “Well, I’ll just make myself comfortable, since you asked me in so nicely,” he said wryly, as he sat
in the oversized easy chair by the fireplace.

She sat across from him on the sofa, still uncomfortable with how she was dressed or rather undressed.  The way
he was looking at her, though!  Monique tugged at her robe, attempting to cover her bare thighs.

“So, who are the flowers for?” she asked curiously.  Maybe if she just kept up a conversation, everything would be
okay.

His full lips turned up into that sexy smile that only he possessed, revealing his straight white teeth.  Leaning
forward, he held the flowers out to her.  “I thought they’d be a nice way to say I’m sorry.  I went a little overboard in
my messages last night.”

“You think?”  Gingerly, Monique took the bouquet from him, taking in the delicate fragrance of the flowers.  “Oh
Jordan, you shouldn’t have,” she whispered thickly, overcome with emotion.  This was the first time in her twenty-
five years of life that a man had ever given her flowers.  Tears suddenly sprung up and Monique blinked them back
furiously, not wanting him to see her cry.

Instantly Jordan was by her side.  He lifted her chin, forcing her eyes to meet his and softly brushed his thumb
across her wet cheek.  “They weren’t meant to make you cry.  Are you okay?”

Monique laughed brokenly and caught his hand in hers.  “Yes, I’m fine.  You know what a crybaby I am.  Besides,
you took her off guard.  Here I was thinking you were going to yell at me some more and then you go and give me
roses.”  Her green eyes searched his face, trying to read what was going on in his mind but his strong jaw line and
intense chocolate gaze didn’t reveal a clue of any kind.  “What did I do to deserve these?”

He squeezed her hand gently.  “You put up with me and all my bullying.  Anyone else would’ve turned me away
years ago.  You’re a very special kind of woman.”

“Oh, go on with your flattery.  You’ll say anything to get me to make my supreme French toast.”  He loved her
cooking and seemed to be around for every available meal.  “Don’t think I couldn’t tell you had an ulterior motive
showing up here at breakfast time.”

He smiled again, making her heart strangely skip a beat.  “Man, I’ve been caught.  Just promise you’ll go easy on
me,” he whispered softly.
Monique held his gaze for endless seconds and then abruptly turned away.  The emotions in his voice for some
unexplainable reason were too much to take.  What in the world was going on with her—with them—this morning?
“I’m going to find a vase for these and start breakfast.  Care to join me?”  She got up and walked towards the
kitchen.

When she realized he wasn’t behind her, she stopped and glanced over her shoulder.  Jordan was still sitting
where she left him on the couch, his gaze riveted on her body and the warmth rose quickly within her.  Monique
immediately knew what he was thinking—the desire was pulsing so strongly, she could feel it in every pore.  Every
single nerve came to life in her body, as if someone had shocked her with electricity.  Which he had.  Struggling to
breathe normally, she spoke, her voice betraying her.

“Maybe you should wash your hands first.”  With her husky whisper, her statement sounded more like an invitation
to her bed.  Jordan, looking a little dazed himself, shook his head in agreement.  He left the room in a hurry without
looking back in her direction.
